The South Street Seaport is a historic area in the New York City borough of Manhattan, located where Fulton Street meets the East River, and adjacent to the Financial District. The Seaport is a designated historic district, distinct from the neighboring Financial District. It features some of the oldest architecture in downtown Manhattan, and includes the largest concentration of restored early 19th-century commercial buildings in the city. This includes renovated original mercantile buildings, renovated sailing ships, the former Fulton Fish Market, and modern tourist malls featuring food, shopping and nightlife, with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge.
When the Krippin Virus broke out in Manhattan, the South Street Seaport was used as an evacuation point. Dr. Robert Neville took his late wife and daughter, Zoe and Marley Neville, to the Seaport to evacuate them. However, as the helicopter carrying Zoe and Marley was leaving, a horde of Darkseekers attacked another leaving chopper across the East River, causing it to collide with the chopper leaving the South Street Seaport and kill Zoe and Marley.
After Manhattan was quarantined and destroyed by KV, Dr. Neville spent the next three years there, with his companion Sam. He waited at the South Street Seaport every day from midday for any other immune survivors to arrive. On the night after Sam was infected and died, Neville, in a fit of rage, arrived at the Seaport and used his SUV to attack a Darkseeker horde there. However, the Darkseekers, led by an alpha male, managed to overwhelm Neville, but before they could finish him off, fellow survivors Anna and Ethan arrived in time to save Neville and return with him to his home.
